What do australians think of outback steakhouse?

Do you think its awesome that there is a restaurant themed for australia? Or do you hate it? What about the food? I heard its nothing like what australians really eat. What do australians think of outback steakhouse?
Hello,

My husband and I visited an Outback Steakhouse when in USA and although I didnt think it "awesome", I found the food was good and the prices reasonable. I also found some things on the menu that you'd never get away with in Australia e.g. an "Ab-original" salad - I wasn't offended, just surprised.

It was interesting to see what the Americans perception of Australiana was (including the word "sheila" on the restrooms - a word that is considered old fashioned and not used any longer. I'm glad that we ate a meal there for the experience, but haven't felt the need to revisit on subsequent visits to America.

One last note on this subject, I have noticed the word "Yank" in many of the answers by fellow Australians and the answers themselves quite negative. I find this unnecessary, when the person posing the question addressed has been polite and addressed us as Australians. I have been to the States and on every occasion have found the American people to be a friendly people.

Let's be polite :)
I visited America last month and was actually quite offended by the ridiculous and unrealistic Australian stereotype portrayed in "Outback Steakhouse". The food was quite nice but in no way Australian (the menu ignorantly named American dishes after Australian cities/towns and animals ect), and their ads... don't get me started on their ads. What do australians think of outback steakhouse?
Was that the chain that closed down? Maybe not...

Just looked at their website. It looks like an American wannabe stuff.

Nobody "throws a shrimp on the barbie".

The onion thing? The mushrooms? Cheese chips? Not common or unheard of... Steaks and urgers of some variation are, but they're all cheesy names and not recognisable per say.
This restaurant is not Australian - Australians only see it s an American restaurant that is playing off on Australian names. Now if they served Crocodile, Witchety grubs, Kangaroo - that would be an Australian themed restaurant. As it is its childish.
Skylar, the only thing Outback is the name, that's it, the food is nothing like Australia, another American idea to make a fast buck on the Kangaroo's back.
steak houses have nothing to do with Australia. Just some yanks idea for making money. Same as the moronic Irish pub theme some drongo came up with
