My friend works at a Japanese Steakhouse and the owner keeps the majority share of the tips. Is that illegal?

In addition to that he only allows employees to stay on the clock for their scheduled hours but still makes them finish their closing duties. That is OBVIOUSLY illegal. Is he allowed to file a complaint anonymously that will still allow him to keep his job (i.e. the business won't be shut down), and get compensated for all his cut tips/hours?My friend works at a Japanese Steakhouse and the owner keeps the majority share of the tips. No legitimate owner takes ANY part of the employees' tips. It's part of the attraction for good staff. This guy's a scumbag. The employee should file a complaint with the Employment Standards agency, (At least, that's what they're called where I live). It must be illegal to make someone stay after their clock time is up. I don't know if keeping employees tips is legal, I think that that's supposed to be worked out before hiring. But no employer that I know of does that.My friend works at a Japanese Steakhouse and the owner keeps the majority share of the tips. Is that illegal?
Starbucks was sued for managers keeping tips.. I am sure this is illegal.

I would tell your friend to look for another job, but the economy stinks right now.

If I had to clock out, then I would leave. I wouldn't work for free.
